Sst! Hey Neng!

I was on my way home from work, on an ojek (motorbike taxi), and a group of men were walking by. We were in a small alley off the main road so the ojek driver had to drive slowly. One of the men on the street went “Sst sst, Hey Neng!” (Hey girl!). I looked at him and said “Ada apa sih?” (What???). We drove off, but I felt so frustrated and angry, he had no problem catcalling me like that with so many other people around, and no one said anything to him. Even my ojek driver didn’t say anything. I tried to ask the ojek driver his opinion about it–I said “why do some men think its OK to call women like that on the street, it makes me very uncomfortable.”  But he just ignored me.
